The Director applies strategic business development principles to maintain or grow market share. The Director manages Gales Market Research program as it relates to the conceptualization of new products, pricing, and competitive intelligence. The Director is responsible for managing a team of Market Strategists, Market Research Managers, and a Bid Manager with responsibility for responding to large proposal requests.Responsibilities:o Work with Sales management, Publishing, and the Marketing Communications team to fully understand all market segments and sub-segments. Work closely with these teams to conceptualize and execute on effective sales campaigns around products. Analyze and understand campaign reporting and tracking activities, adjusting execution based on the results.o Manage pricing strategy for Gales electronic and print product lines.o Work with Consortia Sales to identify large opportunities and set strategic direction for proposals.o Work with Publishing to identify marketing opportunities for product line, including campaign opportunities, promotions, surveys, etc. Meet regularly with publishing team to ensure consistent collaboration and transparency.o Work with Publishing to identify and test product ideas within segments, including the administration of focus groups, customer meetings and market sensing.o Work with Marketing Communications to create and maintain marketing toolkits for each product, which include white papers, press releases, commissioned studies, print-ready marketing materials, etc.o Developing and executing a plan to meet short and long term sales and profitability targets.o Managing employee retention and staffing the Strategy, Research, and Bid teams at appropriate levels.o Ensuring research quality and achieving high customer satisfaction levels.Requirements:o 5 years in a market research and/or marketing strategy capacityo experience managing the P&L of a group, division or business in publishing or an adjacent industry.o Hands-on experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods.o Outstanding morale and team-building skills.o Proven business and negotiation skillso Ability and willingness to travelo A degree in marketing, business, or the sciencesPreferred:o 15 years in a market research and/or marketing strategy capacityo 5 or more years managing the P&L of a group, division or business in publishing or an adjacent industry.o MBA preferred Cengage Learning is an equal opportunity employer, committed to attracting and retaining a talented and diverse workforce.
